Blinds for Lakeshore and Belle River Homes: New Builds and Lake St. Clair Views

Lakeshore is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Essex County, and its newer homes come with a lot of glass. Along Lake St. Clair, the view runs north.

A growing municipality

Lakeshore was formed in 1999 from the Town of Belle River and the townships of Maidstone, Rochester, Tilbury North and Tilbury West. It stretches along Lake St. Clair and takes in Belle River, Emeryville, Puce, Stoney Point, Lighthouse Cove, Comber, Woodslee, Deerbrook, St. Joachim, Staples and Ruscom Station. Its population reached 40,410 in the 2021 census, up 10.4% in five years, and a lot of that growth is new homes.

New builds: plan early

New homes give you the best chance to get window coverings right, if you plan at the right moments.

  1. Before drywall: decide which windows will have hardwired motorized shades, usually the two-storey great room, long runs of glass and the media room. Low-voltage cable and wood blocking go in now. See pre-wiring for motorized shades.
  2. After trim and paint: book the final measure, because trim changes the inside dimensions.

You can phase the rest: bedrooms and street-facing rooms first, the main floor next, the basement later. Our new homes guide has the full checklist.

Lake St. Clair: north views and western sunsets

Homes on the water look north across Lake St. Clair. Lake-facing windows get soft, indirect light most of the day, which is easy to live with. The exception is west-facing glass, which catches strong evening sun across the water in summer, right when you want to sit and enjoy the view.

  • North-facing lake windows: light-filtering or screen shades, mostly for night privacy and a softer look.
  • West-facing windows: screen shades in a darker colour, 1% to 3% openness, lowered for the last hours of daylight.
  • Big walls of glass: motorized, grouped and scheduled.

See shades for south- and west-facing windows.

Open-concept main floors

Most newer Lakeshore homes have a kitchen, dining and family room in one open space. Keep it calm: one product family, one fabric colour and one cassette finish across every window you can see at once. Zebra blinds and roller shades mix well as long as their cassettes match. See choosing blind colours.

Rural Lakeshore: Comber, Woodslee and Staples

South of the 401, Lakeshore is farm country. Farmhouses with wide views take the full afternoon sun and the winter wind. Double-cell honeycomb shades add the most insulation; screen shades keep the view across the fields; fabrics that wipe or vacuum clean handle the dust.

Our picks for Lakeshore homes

  • Two-storey great rooms: motorized roller or zebra shades, grouped by row.
  • Bedrooms: blackout roller shades.
  • West-facing lake windows: motorized screen shades on a sunset schedule.
  • Patio doors: screen shades, vertical sheers or drapery on a track. See patio door blinds.

Common questions

Do you serve all of Lakeshore?

Yes. Free in-home visits cover Belle River, Emeryville, Puce, Stoney Point, Lighthouse Cove, Comber, Woodslee and the rest of Lakeshore.

When should we book for a new build in Lakeshore?

Talk to us before drywall if you want hardwired motorized shades. Book the final measure once the window trim is installed and painted.

Which shades suit Lake St. Clair view windows?

North-facing lake windows need little glare control, so light-filtering or screen shades work well. West-facing glass needs a darker screen shade for summer evenings.
