Hospital Cubicle Curtains: A Buyer’s Guide for Clinics and Care Homes

Privacy curtains around beds and exam areas look simple, but the details make the difference: the mesh at the top, the track, the fabric and how often the curtains are changed.

In short

  • A breathable mesh top lets air, light and sprinkler water through.
  • Tracks can be surface-mounted or suspended, straight or curved.
  • Choose washable or disposable curtains to suit your infection-control routine.
  • We measure, supply, install and handle scheduled changeovers.

What a cubicle curtain system includes

  • The track, mounted to the ceiling or suspended below it.
  • Carriers or hooks that glide in the track.
  • The curtain, with a mesh band at the top and a solid fabric panel below.
  • End stops and fittings that keep curtains in place and make removal quick.

Why the mesh top is important

The open mesh band at the top of a cubicle curtain lets air circulate, lets ceiling light reach the bed or chair, and lets sprinkler water pass through in a fire. Fire codes commonly require it in sprinklered spaces, so confirm the requirement for your building with your facility's fire safety lead. We size the mesh band to suit your ceiling height and sprinkler layout.

Track systems

  • Surface-mounted tracks fix directly to the ceiling. Common in clinics and patient rooms with standard ceiling heights.
  • Suspended tracks hang from rods below high ceilings, so the curtain stays a practical height.
  • Straight, L-shaped, U-shaped or curved layouts wrap around beds, chairs and exam tables.
  • Ceiling types vary: drywall, plaster and T-bar grid ceilings each need the right mounting hardware.

Fabric choices

  • Antimicrobial-treated fabrics that resist the growth of bacteria on the fabric.
  • Flame-retardant fabrics with test documentation for your file.
  • Easy-clean finishes and colours or patterns that feel calm rather than clinical.

Washable or disposable?

Washable curtains are laundered by your facility or a laundry service and rehung. Disposable curtains are made of a non-woven fabric and replaced on a schedule or whenever they are soiled. Many facilities use both: washable in general areas and disposable where curtains are changed more often. The right choice depends on your infection prevention policy and laundry access.

Measuring

We measure each run of track, the ceiling height and the floor clearance, so curtains clear the floor for cleaning and wheelchairs, and so the mesh band sits where it needs to for your sprinklers.

Scheduled changeovers

We can swap curtains on a schedule you set, with minimal disruption to patients and staff, so changeovers don't depend on someone remembering.

Window treatments for patient rooms

Patient rooms also need light control: blackout or room-darkening roller shades for rest, light-filtering shades for daytime privacy, cordless or motorized for safety and in wipeable fabrics. See commercial window blinds.

Planning a cubicle curtain project

  1. Walk-through: we look at each room, the ceiling type, the sprinkler heads and how staff move around beds.
  2. Layout: we plan the track runs, including curves and openings for staff access.
  3. Fabric choice: colours, washable or disposable, and the documentation you need.
  4. Installation: scheduled room by room to keep beds and exam rooms available.
  5. Changeovers: an optional schedule for replacing curtains.

Who we work with

Common questions

How often should cubicle curtains be changed?

Follow your facility’s infection prevention policy. Many facilities set a routine schedule and also change curtains when they are soiled or after an isolation case. We can run the changeovers on your schedule.

Should we choose disposable or washable curtains?

It depends on your laundry access and infection-control routine. Washable curtains suit facilities with laundry services; disposable curtains suit areas that need frequent changes.

Can you install tracks on T-bar ceilings?

Yes. We use the right mounting hardware for drywall, plaster and T-bar grid ceilings.

Can you replace curtains on our existing tracks?

In many cases, yes, if the track and carriers are in good condition. We check the existing system at the walk-through.
